Title:
We were Soldiers
Legnt of Listening/Watching:
2:30 hrs
Summary:
The movie tells the story of Lietenant colonel Harold G. Moore(Mel Gibson)
and the battle at LZ X-Ray in the Ia Drang Valley, the first major conflict
between North Vietnamese troops and American troops in the Vietnam
War. Gibson shines in the role, showing us an intelligent, thinking, brave
and determined leader. He won't ask a man to do what he won't do
himself. "I will be the first to step on the field and I will be the last to
step off". he assures his troops. He reads books and studies the
nature of his enemy carefully. He trains his men meticulously,
preparing them for the ominous battle to come. "Men will die" he
tells his troops, knowing that he and his men are at a disadvantage
against an enemy on their own turf.
In addition to Gibson, Greg kennear, Sam Elliot, Barry Pepper, and
Keri Russell all give outstanding performance. Kinnear plays Bruce
Crandall, a chopper pilot showing determination and courage while
still revealing his fear of death in the course of battle. Pepper plays
Joe Galloway, the journalist who rides into the heat of battle to get
his story first-hand.
Moore soon finds himself and his men contained to an area about
the size of a football field, surrounded by more than 2,000 enemy
troops and engaged in the first major battle of the war. Heroism
becomes the order of the day as men like Moore, chopper pilot
Bruce Crandall(Greg Kinnear), and Lt. Henry Herrick(Marc Blucas)
refuse to yield, in spite of heavy losses of life. In the end the
americans won the war and the north vietnamese retreats from
their strong holds. The film co-stars Madeleine Stowe as the wife
of Mel Gibson.
Reaction:
This movie is a true to life story. It portrays how the wives
endure the suffering by the loss of their husband in the war
which they consider were not their war at all. I like the
place were the movie shot. It's war pact action movie.
New words:
Meticulously- marked by extreme care in the consideration
of details.
Ominous - exhibiting an omen.
